Carlos Castillo – Architectural Model Maker & Digital Fabricator – New York City
Carlos Castillo is an architectural designer, fabricator, and educator. He is a Part-Time Faculty at Parsons School of Design at the New School in New York, where he teaches Digital-Fabrication and Architectural Model-Making focusing on digital manufacturing as an aid in the iterative design processes. He previously worked at Bjarke Ingels Group. For three years, he trained, assisted, and guided dozens of design teams in the fabrication of thousand of study models while developing BIG’s first 3D print farm. By the end of his time at BIG, the 3dPrint farm was averaging 300 printed models per month. He would also take on a leadership role in the fabrication of large competitions and marketing models such as a 1:50 NABR model completed in 2021. Carlos’ career as Junior Model Maker at Rafael Vinoly Architects started in 2016, where he lead the fabrication of a couple of high-end models now a part of Viñoly’s private collection; Princeton Stadium and Howard Hughes Medical Institute among them. His first professional work was for professor and artist Tristan Al-Haddad at Formations Studio in Atlanta, GA. He developed and built Stealth under Tristan’s direction; a three-story height concrete monolith that took a year to complete. Carlos Castillo attended Kennesaw State University where he obtained a Bachelor in Architecture degree in 2014
